The police in Ogun state have killed the kidnappers of Folashade Odumosu, the wife of his retired Assistant. Inspector General A police officer, Hakeem Odumosu, rescues him and returns the ransom that was used as bait.
Police spokesperson Olumuyiwa Adejobi disclosed this in a statement published on X Thursday, saying the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun “commendated the Police Operatives and CP Ogun State, Lanre Ogunlowo, for their good work.”
“We are committed to protecting Nigerians and our beloved country,” Adejobi said.
Mrs. Odumosu was abducted last week from her home in Arepo, Owode Local Government Area, Ogun State. The kidnappers demanded a ransom of N40 million.
The kidnappers took Mrs. Odumosu’s Lexus SUV and drove through the swamp to an unknown location.
The police spokesman did not give details about the place where Mrs. Odumosu was rescued. He did not reveal the amount of the ransom “returned”.

Kidnapping is rampant in Nigeria as a report by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) shows that N2.2 trillion was paid as ransom while over 2 million Nigerians were kidnapped between May 2023 and April 2024.
The report titled ‘The Crime Experienced and Security Perception Survey (CESPS) 2024’, showed that 614,937 people were killed across the country. Of this number, 206,030 were killed in the northwest, while 188,992 people were killed in the northeast, a region that has been plagued by years of insurgency by Boko Haram and its splinter groups.
