The Police Command in Adamawa has appealed against the judgment of the Yola High Court ordering the release of a kidnap suspect and payment of N5 million as compensation for wrongful arrest.
This was made known in Yola on Thursday in a statement by the spokesperson of the organization, Suleiman Nguroje.
Mr Nguroje said the law was not satisfied with the decision that was handed down on Wednesday, 22 January, in favor of the accused, Hammadu Musa.
“The law seeks to make it clear that the defendant was arrested by security guards for kidnapping and handed over to the police.
“Later, he was investigated and after establishing an independent investigation, the police charged him in court.
“The case was repeated and sent to the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, Ministry of Justice to receive legal advice and take the case.”
According to him, the law works in accordance with the rules related to the Rule of Law, presenting the case of the accused (suspect) to the Court.

He insisted that the police did not wrongly detain him in the way they did which shows a violation of his human rights.
“The court sent the defendant back to the Correctional Service Facility here in Yola for the duration of the case.
“So this law assures the people that in cooperation with the Ministry of Justice, they will appeal against the decision of the High Court of the State, Yola”.
