    Explosion At Niger State Mining Site Kills One, Leaves Six Others Injured

    An explosion at a mining site in Sabon Pegi, Mashegun district of Niger state, has killed one person and injured several others.

    The explosion occurred on Sunday morning when miners were resuming work at the site.

    According to the police, one person died while six others were injured.

    Police suspect that the explosion was caused by an explosive device.

    The state police spokesperson, Wasiu Abiodun, said: “On January 26, 2025 at about 7:30 am, in Sabon-Pegi, Mashegu LGA there was an explosion of weapons suspected to have been stored in a house. one Yushau area for mining.

    “The blast resulted in the tragic death of one Fatima Sadauki, while six others were injured and sent to Kainji General Hospital for treatment.

    “This incident affected about a dozen houses in the area and the Commissioner of Police in Niger state CP Shawulu Ebenezer Danmamman has ordered an investigation into the matter, he has sent an EOD-CBRN team to the site to investigate, but Yushau who is mentioned here is in the main hospital.

    “However, normalcy has been restored in the area as the investigation continues.”

    This happened a week after many people including a pregnant woman were killed in a tank bomb in Dikko, Niger state.

    Last week, The Bureau Newspaper reported on a deadly tank explosion that occurred near Dikko Junction along Minna road, killing at least 98 people and injuring many others.
