Abia, Nigeria – President Bola Ahmed tinboku has told the relevant road management agencies to establish strict measures to check the explosion of water logs across the country. The directive comes in response to the explosion of timber in Enigu Gree on Saturday, which claimed 18 lives and left several others injured.
In a statement issued on Sunday by his spokesman, Bayoto Ofuga, President Tebebu gave a serious response to the government and the people of Eugual after the incident. He also observed caution and adherence to safety measures among road users, especially fuel users, to prevent similar problems in the future.
A call for protection and vigilance
The President emphasized the importance of enforcement of traffic laws to ensure the safety of road users. “I encourage all the relevant agencies to take immediate action to prevent such incidents from happening again. Road safety is a major responsibility, and we must all do our part to protect lives,” President Tibebu said.
He also advised oil producers to be more alert and follow proper procedures, including proper vehicle maintenance, speed limits, and safe driving practices.

President Timubu added his heartfelt message to the families of the victims and wished for a speedy recovery for those injured in the explosion. “My thoughts and prayers are with the families of the deceased and those receiving medical treatment. May the lives of those who departed in peace, and the injured people recover quickly,” he said.

The tragic shooting happened on Saturday around 11 along the Ouyu-Onsdaama section of the Enugu-Onithaa road. According to reports, the fuel pump lost control and burst into flames, causing a huge fire that killed 18 people.
The Federal Road Carps Corps (Frsc) confirmed the killings on Sunday, describing the incident as wrongful road traffic.
